Doing things you have been dreaming about

We all have dreams. We all have our own unique idea of spending life.

Some of us want independence – Financial & Location. We want the freedom to set our own working hours.

So that we can travel the world, and spend more time with our loved ones. Do the things that we enjoy doing, and live a happy and peaceful life.

You know achieving this lifestyle is possible, but boy do these dreams make you anxious

Why you need to start today

Life is but a short journey from birth to death. This journey is going to end some day. And when that day arrives we will look back on how we spent our lives.

If we are going to spend a few more years on this beautiful planet, it makes sense to plan how we want to spend those remaining years.

After all, we all want to live fully and die gracefully. Don’t we?

What does it mean to live fully?

Does it mean to do things that you’ve been dreaming about?

To find out, I read several articles and finally found a quote that instantly connected with my idea of living fully. The quote was by Jim Rohn. And I found it in an article on How To Be Unstoppable by @BenjaminPHardy

According to Jim Rohn,

“The way to enjoy life best is to wrap up one goal and start right on the next one. Don’t linger too long at the table of success, the only way to enjoy another meal is to get hungry.”

I couldnt agree more.

The key takeaway here is to set a goal, give it your best shot, and after you do it, immediately start working on the next one.

Creating a 3-year plan

To plan the next 3-5 yrs of your life, decide where you want to be – Physically, Mentally, & Spiritually. Imagine, what your life will look like and what behaviours you will demonstrate when you get there.

Be careful when you set a certain goal. If it’s unrealistic you will never accomplish it. Which means you will never move ahead. And if you set the bar too low you will never realize your true potential.

Always make sure that you set realistic daily and weekly targets that you can achieve. Hitting your milestones consistently will create momentum and build a winning attitude.

Have you ever experienced the joy of hitting your milestones? The joy of being on a winning streak? If you haven’t, start with setting small goals which you can easily accomplish. Once you build momentum and winning attitude, start to work your way up by setting bigger goals.

Create daily and weekly targets. This will help you stay on the right track and motivate you to give it your best shot. Not to mention, you will be moving one step ahead every single day.

Why do you want to do the things you’ve been dreaming about?

What you can achieve in the next 3-5 years, depends 80% on why you want to do it and 20% on how to do it.

How many really good answers do you have for the WHY? Are they plenty to

  • Get you excited about the work
  • Develop resilience, perseverance, and grit.

Whether its writing a blog post, attending a conference, or building a networ1k. Its important to have a clear purpose for doing everything that you do.

Find the person who has already done what you want to do

To overcome the obstacles in your life, you must take action. Get started as fast as you can. Usually, getting started is always the toughest part of doing anything.

But, how do you start doing something that you’ve never done before? Well, how did you start walking when you were a little child?

Nobody knows how to do something that they’ve never done before. You have to start by learning from people who have already done what you want to do.

Pick a niche

Start with what you would like to do for the next few years of your life.

Which skills do you want to improve?

Here are some random ideas:

Effective communication,
Networking,
Selling,
Marketing,
Managing money,
Recruiting,
Leadership,
Parenting,
Branding,
Web designing, Graphic Designing, Blogging & Affiliate Marketing, Cooking, Solo Travelling, Photography, Teaching Language …

These are all very broad niches. Obviously, they are going to be competitive. What you need to do is pick a broad niche and then find a sub-niche.

For instance, if your broad niche is : Effective communication

There are lots of sub-niches within it, which you can find by using Google. Here are some examples

Effective communication for students
Effective communication for managers
Effective communication for HR professionals
Effective communication for sales people
Effective communication for professional excellence

These are your potential sub-niches. Now is the the time to analyze them and find out, which one you should go after.

Doing this is easy.

  1. See if there is any authority website dedicated to that topic
  2. Check if there is enough demand for it. Use Google keyword tool for doing this.

If the demand is good, competition is low and you don’t see too many AdWords ads then you’ve found a niche you can go after.

Choosing your niche is important. When you start hustling you want to keep moving ahead every single day.

When you focus on one niche, becoming an authority on that topic is a matter of time.

Without a niche your content will be all over the place.

How can you become an expert or a master or an authority if you don’t choose your core speciality?

Once you’ve got a niche, all you need to do is hustle.

Become a peak performer

Do you ever feel pumped up in the morning, and then feel groggy, and tired for the rest of your day? Staying productive for an hour or two is not enough.

You got to stay energetic and enthusiastic throughout the day.

Also, its not about getting pumped up for a couple of days. To become a peak performer you must perform at your peak everyday, 365 days a year.

You got to develop a habit of working like a peak performer for the rest of your life.

If you feel lazy or less energetic
Its either because you are excessively tired, due to running, working out or walking in the sun.
Or it could be because of something that is going on in your mind. Stress, anxiety, and negative thoughts make you feel lazy and groggy.

But you can easily switch to a more energetic state by using these hacks.

  1. Deep breathing
  2. Drinking water
  3. Doing push ups (5-10)
  4. Getting to work even if you don’t feel like doing it. Insteas if sitting in a chair, stand and work.
  5. Move your body. Walk around your room. Do some stretching exercises.
  6. Avoiding sitting idle if your mind wanders off easily.
  7. Give some task to your brain. Go through your to-do list.

These hacks will bring you back in the zone.

Nothing else matters

This is your life and you don’t need anybody’s permission to live it your way.

Focus on what you are going to do to improve your life. Everything else is a distraction.

It doesnt matter:

  • What your friends are doing,
  • What your family members want you to do
  • What they think you should do or shouldn’t do

Accept total responsibility of your life and your happiness. Create a life of your dreams. Believe in yourself. Nothing else matters.
