Building a network, one relationship at a time
A network is nothing but a web of relationships. All successful people have one thing in common and it’s – They all have a massive network.
Obviously, it didn’t happen overnight. They all started with a tiny network. Infact, some of them started with no network at all.
So how does one go from not knowing anyone to being connected to thousands of people.
When you are just getting started, building a network of this size can seem extremely daunting. Even impossible.
But thats how most people think when they think of climbing Mt Everest. Impossible.
And yet we’ve heard stories of so many people who’ve conquered it. All ordinary people just like you and me, with no special talents.
How do these people successfully climb and summit Mt. Everest?
If you are going to climb Mt Everest,
Ofcourse, you need the equipments, info about weather conditions & food supply. But having all these things cant guarantee that you will succeed.
What you REALLY need is the survival skills, focus, knowledge, experience, tenacity, grit…
And so many other qualities that make you the kinda person who can succeed.
So, the secret to conquering Mt Everest is
To first become the person, who can successfully climb and summit Mt Everest.
Once you become that person, begin your journey and take one step at a time.
To build a massive network of thousands of people,

And then grow your network by building one relationship at a time.

Take the first step
Avoid this excuse: Why would they be interested in me?
Find people who you care for and who care for you. And introduce yourself.
Remember the 5As
Acceptance, Affection, Appreciation, Approval and Attention – These are called EMOTIONAL NEEDS. These are the needs that we all seek to fulfill daily.
Avoid this excuse: I don’t know what they NEED?
Well, now you know what they need.
When you show Acceptance, Affection, Appreciation, Approval & Attention while talking, you instantly become likeable.
Have a great conversation
Nobody likes to have a boring conversation.
Boring conversations typically go like this – Hey, How are you? So,what do you do for a living? How is it going? so, anything new happening in your life? Hows your business? How’s your family? Everything good? Alright take care. See you later.
Usually when we do small talk we mostly talk about 4 things. Family, Occupation, Recreation and Dreams (FORD). Or if we are at some event we talk about our shared interest. To honest, NOBODY CARES about this stuff.
To turn a boring conversation into a great conversation you must connect on a deeper level. And for that, you must ask deep meaningful questions. Questions that will make them think. Questions that will reveal the stuff that they REALLY care about.
Avoid this excuse: I don’t have anything interesting to say.
You already know what they want. Likes, shares & comments. Reviews, testimonials & Guest posts. Virtual assistants, friends & influencers. Followers, leads, customers & subscribers. And all the good stuff that comes along with it. Generosity is the key to build lasting relationships. Give yourself permission to be generous.
Avoid this excuse: I don’t have anything to offer.
Make it a point to talk to 1 new person everyday. It doesn’t matter if you talk in person or online or on the phone. Be intentional.
Avoid this excuse: I don’t think he/she is going to respond.
Normally when we talk to strangers we don’t open up. We fear being judged, labelled, ridiculed, criticized. We put on a fake smile or show fake interest or just talk about random stuff like economy,weather, cars, news etc.
Being vulnerable means to talk about your fears, pain points, dreams, motivations, goals…
Things that you normally don’t talk about. Especially when you are talking to someone you barely know. Remember, everybody is in search of deeper relationships. When you open up, you are creating an opportunity for them to be transparent and genuine with you.
Avoid this excuse: I don’t really know much about him/her.
Be grateful for people who make you happy. Your customers, followers & subscribers. Your supporters, mentors & teachers. People who leave comments, provide feedback & send referrals. And countless others who make your life a little better. Your happiness depends on them. Never ever,ever, ever take them for granted.
If you are a blogger you can practice gratitude by simply replying to comments, emails,& DMs. Sending thank you notes to your subscribers, followers, customers and virtual assistants.
Set some networking and relationship building goals.
Have 10 meaningful conversations this month.
Go to a meetup atleast twice a week,
Throw a great dinner party on Thursday night etc.
Sharing truly is caring. Share ideas, knowledge, information. Share your network, become a connector. Connect people in your network who should meet and get to know each other.
Its your responsibility to build a network where everybody wins. Ask every member of you network how you can help them. Ask them what they want. And make sure that they benefit by being a part of your network.
